John’s daughter wanted to visit a friend in NYC before things got holiday-busy but John didn’t have much time off, so we spent a quick day and a half with our family friends. It was Gracie’s first time in the city…
First up: The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Friday night festivities. We walked across Central Park to get there and spent some time poking around. Music and cocktails and twinkly lights… just magical!
The Delacroix exhibit just opened, and while of course his paintings are spectacular, his journals were what fascinated me the most.
As well as this little landscape study.
Somewhere near the prints wing I passed display cases featuring handmade artist books. Inspiring!
And of course I couldn’t leave without tracking down John Singer Sargent’s Madame X. (Make a left at Washington Crossing the Delaware… down the hall a bit… etc.)
We started Saturday with an out-and-back on the Staten Island Ferry.
Followed by a feast at Eataly and a bit of overspending at the Lindt store :-)
A great visit with great friends (although too short!), and such a fun start to the holidays. Thank you Richard, Natalie, Alexander & Marguerite! xo
