Ever since I can remember, this has been my favorite Christmas tree ornament. It hung on our tree when I was little and we lived in Germany, and I realize as I slipped it over a branch this year that it might be what started my love of birds. If I shrank Valentine down to a less-than-a-centimeter size, he’d pretty much look like these little guys.
Today, with any luck, I am off to meet John in Atlanta. He’s in between trips and flying on Christmas day, so we’re hotel-ing it tonight. It’s been 3 years since the first holidays without my mom and dad and I think I am finally okay with things not being the same. I had 45 years of Christmases at my parents’ house— I was darn lucky. If the new tradition involves airport food and flying stand-by to whatever city John happens to be piloting an MD-88 to, what the heck.
Joy and love to you, wherever you happen to be today and tomorrow :-)
